Lemon Garlic Chicken Marinade delivers juicy, tender chicken brightened with fresh lemon, garlic, and savory herbs.

author’s note
Chicken, But Make It Exciting!
I cook chicken often—it’s budget-friendly, universally liked, and very adaptable. Still, chicken dishes can get repetitive, so I experiment with marinades, sauces, and serving ideas to keep meals interesting. This lemon garlic marinade is one of my favorites: effortless to make and full of bright, fresh flavor.
This marinade is versatile. Use it as the base for grilled pita sandwiches with tzatziki, tuck the chicken into warm pita, or serve it alongside a crisp Greek salad for a complete meal.

Lemon Garlic Chicken Marinade Ingredients
| Ingredient | Notes |
|---|---|
| Chicken breasts or thighs | Thighs stay juicier and are more forgiving. If using breasts, slice and pound to even thickness for consistent cooking. |
| Lemons & honey | Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best, brightest flavor. A touch of honey balances the acidity. |
| Garlic | Freshly minced or grated garlic gives the strongest flavor. Adjust quantity to taste. |
| Oregano, salt & pepper | Dried oregano adds classic Mediterranean flavor. Whisk seasonings into the marinade so every bite is seasoned. |
| Olive oil | A quality olive oil adds flavor and helps keep the chicken tender while grilling. |

How To Make This Lemon Garlic Chicken Marinade
- Prep chicken: Slice each breast in half horizontally if needed and pound to an even thickness. Pat dry and place in a resealable bag.
- Make marinade: Whisk together honey, oregano, garlic, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Pour over chicken and seal the bag, massaging to coat.
- Marinate: Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes; do not exceed 1 hour to avoid the lemon beginning to change the chicken’s texture.
- Grill: Preheat the grill to medium (about 400°F). Remove chicken from the marinade and discard excess. Clean and oil grates, then grill 4–5 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 160°F; carryover heat will bring it to 165°F.
- Serve: Let the chicken rest 5 minutes, then serve with warm pita, tzatziki, Greek salad, and lemon wedges if desired.
