Apple Nachos deliver all the fun of caramel apples with far less effort. Arrange crisp apple slices and top them with caramel, nut butter, chocolate, nuts, or any of your favorite toppings for a quick, shareable snack or dessert.

An Easier Way to Enjoy Caramel Apples
My middle son’s favorite treat has always been a caramel apple. We love making them together each fall and winter, but the stick-and-roll method is messy and takes time. Apple nachos give us the same flavors—caramel, chocolate, crunchy mix-ins—without the fuss. They’re fast to assemble, kid-friendly, and infinitely customizable.
When we want a less-sugary option, we swap caramel for almond or peanut butter and top with nuts and seeds. Either way, they’re an easy snack or dessert that feels special and comes together in minutes.

How To Keep Apples From Browning
If you’re serving the apple nachos immediately, you can skip this step. If you need to prep ahead or the slices will sit out, this simple method preserves color and crispness.
Quick method:
- Mix: Stir 1/2 teaspoon salt into 1 cup cool water.
- Soak: Submerge the apple slices for 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse and dry: Drain, rinse under cool water, and pat the slices dry.
This keeps apples crisp for hours and helps them stay fresh in the fridge overnight. The brief salt soak does not make the apples taste salty.

Chelsea’s Notes
Favorite Toppings for Apple Nachos
- Nut butter: Peanut, almond, cashew, or maple nut butter warmed slightly for drizzling.
- Crunch: Granola, chopped nuts, chia seeds, toasted coconut, or pepitas.
- Dried fruit: Dried cranberries, raisins, cherries, or chopped dates for chew and sweetness.
- Sweet extras: Honey or maple syrup to drizzle sparingly.
- Spices: Cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or apple pie spice for warm flavor.
- Caramel: Store-bought or homemade caramel sauce warmed and drizzled over the apples.
- Chocolate and candy: Mini chocolate chips, chopped chocolate, toffee bits, mini candies, or chopped candy bars for an indulgent finish.

Best Apples for Apple Nachos
Use any crisp apple you enjoy. For a sweet-and-crisp bite, Honeycrisp or Fuji are excellent. If you prefer a tart contrast to sweet toppings, Granny Smith is my top pick. Cold apples sliced about 1/4-inch thick work best for texture and presentation.

Apple Nachos
Equipment
-
Small microwave-safe bowl
Ingredients
- 2 large apples, sliced (see note 1)
- 1/4 cup nut butter of choice
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
- 2 tablespoons dried sweetened cranberries
- Optional toppings: granola, chopped nuts, toasted coconut, chia seeds, honey, or maple syrup
- 2 large apples, sliced (see note 1)
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce
- 1/4 cup English toffee baking bits or toffee pieces
- 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips
Instructions
-
Prepare apples (chilled if possible) and place the slices in a single layer around the edge of a plate. Continue layering toward the center to create a circular “nacho” presentation.
-
Warm nut butter or caramel in a small microwave-safe bowl for 10–15 seconds, just until pourable. Transfer to a small plastic bag and snip off a corner, or use a spoon, to drizzle evenly over the apple slices.
-
Sprinkle on your desired toppings, adding as much or as little as you like. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Recipe Notes
Note 1: Cold apples slice more cleanly and stay firmer. Aim for slices about 1/4-inch thick. Granny Smith pairs well with sweeter toppings; Honeycrisp or Fuji are excellent when using nut butter.
Toppings: Quantities are flexible. Use roughly 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup of each topping depending on how loaded you want the nachos to be. Good options include honey, melted dark chocolate, toasted coconut, chia seeds, granola, and lightly salted nuts.
Caramel: Store-bought caramel works well, or use a homemade caramel sauce if you prefer. Warm the sauce briefly to make drizzling easier.
Keep apples from browning: For prep-ahead slices, stir 1/2 teaspoon salt into 1 cup cool water and soak apple slices for 5–10 minutes. Drain, rinse thoroughly, and dry. The slices will stay fresh-looking for hours.
Storage: Apple nachos are best served fresh. If you need to make components ahead, keep apple slices chilled and follow the salt-soak method to prevent browning. Store any leftover toppings separately to maintain crispness.
