Avocado Toast Recipes at Home

Avocado Toast Recipes you’ll want on repeat with five fresh, fun takes for breakfast, lunch, or snacking. These are my go-tos after years of avocado toast obsession.

author’s note

The reliable Breakfast, Lunch, Or Snack!

It’s rare for my kitchen not to have a bag of avocados. I add them to just about everything. And if there are any left by the end of the week, they’re either headed for guacamole or a big bowl of avocado salsa.

Most often, though, I mash them up and pile them on toasted bread. It’s my go-to breakfast, but avocado toast isn’t just for mornings. I’ll happily eat it for lunch, snacks, or even the occasional dinner.

How To Make These Avocado Toast Recipes

This breakfast is one of the easiest to make, right up there with a Green Smoothie or a quick Blueberry Smoothie!

  1. In a small bowl, combine half of a ripe avocado with seasonings and lemon.
  2. Gently mash with the back of a fork until nice and creamy.
  3. Spread the mashed avocado on top of a slice of sturdy toasted bread.
  4. Add any toppings you like and devour!

Ideas For Avocado Toast Recipes

  • Avo Toast with Lemon: Mix mashed avocado, seasonings, and a squeeze of lemon.
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning Toast: So simple, just sprinkle this satisfying seasoning mix on top of your toast.
  • Avocado Toast with Cheese: My fave! Top avocado with goat cheese, toasted corn, and fresh herbs like basil and chives.
  • Avocado Toast with Egg: Add a sunny-side-up or over-straightforward egg on top of bacon (or turkey bacon). A sprinkle of fresh chives makes this one a winner!
  • Caprese Toast: Just like a Caprese Salad, I top mashed avocado with cherry tomatoes (try roasted), mozz pearls, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Amazing!

Avocado Toast Recipes: Let’s Talk Bread!

Any crusty, thick-sliced bread works—preferably something sturdy to hold the avocado and toppings without getting soggy.

You could also try making your own Honey Whole Wheat Bread or this White Bread.

Other great options: artisan, rye, sourdough, or even English muffins! Mashed avocado is also satisfying on this from-scratch Biscuit Recipe.

Quick Tip

Don’t forget to toast the bread or English muffins. This makes a huge difference!

Avocado Toast Recipes and Tips

  • Use ripe avocados! To see if it’s ripe, gently press near the stem. If it gives slightly, it’s ready to mash.
  • Enjoy the toast right after making it. To prevent sogginess, don’t spread the avocado until you’re ready to eat.
  • Avoid mashing the avocado directly on the toast—it can smash the bread, break its structure, and make it soggy faster.

Quick Tip

Want to ripen an avocado faster? Put it in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana for 1–3 days. Otherwise, let it ripen on the counter and check it each day.

Once ripe, store it in the fridge to slow the ripening and use within a few days.
