The Utah Dessert “Salad” Thing
Okay, calling this a “salad” might be a stretch…but as a born-and-raised Utahn, that’s just how it goes here!
It’s really a dessert made with chopped Snickers, crisp Granny Smith apples, creamy vanilla pudding, and fluffy whipped topping all mixed together. And it’s ridiculously good.
And since there’s fruit involved and it gets tossed like a salad, it’s not unusual to see this Snickers Salad Recipe piled right onto a dinner plate next to roasted vegetables and baked chicken. That’s just how it’s done in Utah!

Ingredients in This Snickers Salad Recipe
| Ingredient | Let’s Chat About It |
|---|---|
| Vanilla pudding mix & milk | Use instant pudding and whisk until smooth and slightly thick before adding anything else. |
| Whipped topping | Let it fully thaw so it folds in easily and keeps everything light and fluffy. Want to make your own? See the quick tip below. |
| Apples | Granny Smith adds the best crisp bite. Dice right before mixing and use my quick salted water soak to keep them from browning. |
| Snickers bars | Chill before cutting for cleaner pieces. Save a handful for topping your Snickers Salad Recipe. |
| Caramel sauce & toffee bits | Add right before serving so they don’t melt in and lose that sweet crunch. Finish with a drizzle of caramel sauce, from-scratch or store-bought. |
Quick Tip
This Snickers Salad Recipe calls for one 8-ounce container of whipped topping. You can swap in TruWhip or use from-scratch whipped cream. To make it: in a stand mixer with a whisk attachment, beat 1 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla until firm peaks form, about 2–4 minutes.

Snickers Salad Recipe Origin
Wondering what Snickers Salad is? The origin isn’t totally clear, but it’s a Midwest potluck staple you’ll see at church picnics and gatherings.
It’s served right alongside casseroles like funeral potatoes or chicken poppy seed casserole, and somehow, that makes it dinner!
