Heart Hug Pretzels, Love Fortune Cookies, Mini Valentine Bear, White Chocolate Heart Pretzels spread out beautifully for Valentine's Day

1. Delicious Heart Hug Pretzels

First up are these irresistible HEART HUG PRETZELS. These treats are a delightful twist on a holiday favorite, reminiscent of the popular “Rudolph Noses” that bring joy during Christmas. My family absolutely adores these little sweet and salty bites, and I find so much joy in making them, especially with my children. They are incredibly easy to assemble and bake, making them a fantastic last-minute treat for school parties, office exchanges, or just a cozy night in. The combination of crispy pretzels, melty chocolate hugs, and a colorful M&M creates a textural and flavor experience that’s simply addictive.

A couple of important tips will help you achieve pretzel perfection:

  1. Always use your oven’s regular baking setting, not convection. Convection heat can be too intense and uneven for melting the chocolate just right, leading to crumbly results.
  2. Test your baking time. The goal isn’t to bake the chocolate Hugs, but rather to soften them just enough so you can gently press an M&M into the top. Ovens vary, so what works for one might not work for another. I recommend trying a single pretzel with a Hug for about 2 minutes. If the chocolate cracks or becomes crumbly, reduce the time by a minute. If it’s still too firm to press, add another 30 seconds to a full minute. This small test ensures you get that perfect, slightly squishy chocolate base without overbaking.

With these simple precautions, you’ll have a batch of perfect Heart Hug Pretzels ready to enjoy in no time!

Heart Hug Pretzels

By Chelsea Lords
Easy three-ingredient heart hug pretzels – a perfect sweet and salty treat for Valentine’s Day.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 8 minutes
Servings: 25 candies

Ingredients

  • 25 pretzels square or twists, such as Snaps or mini twists
  • 25 Hershey’s Hugs
  • 25 Valentine’s Day M&M’s or other small, festive candy

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 C). Remember, do NOT use convection settings, as this can cause the chocolate to burn or crumble.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy. Arrange the pretzels evenly on the prepared tray, leaving a little space between each.
  • Carefully unwrap each Hershey’s Hug and place one on top of each pretzel.
  • Bake for approximately 1-3 minutes. Keep a close eye on them! The goal is for the Hugs to become soft and slightly glossy, but not fully melted into a puddle. They should still hold their shape.
  • Immediately after removing the tray from the oven, gently press one Valentine’s Day M&M candy into the center of each softened Hug. The residual heat will help the M&M adhere.
  • Allow the chocolate to fully harden at room temperature or, to speed up the process, place the tray in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes. Once set, these delightful treats are ready to be served or packaged!

Recipe Notes

*Several people have reported issues with the chocolate Hugs crumbling or burning. This typically happens if the oven is too hot or the chocolate is baked for too long. To avoid this, I strongly recommend testing one pretzel with a Hug first in your oven. If it crumbles, reduce the baking time for the rest of your batch. Absolutely do not use convection oven settings, as the circulating hot air can cause the chocolate to seize or melt inconsistently. Patience and a watchful eye are key for perfect results.

Love Fortune Cookies made from fruit roll-ups with a heart cookie cutter

2. Creative Love Fortune “Cookies”

Next, get ready for some adorable LOVE FORTUNE “COOKIES”. These ingenious treats are not my original idea, but they are so charming and fun that I simply had to share them. I first saw these last year and immediately knew they would be a hit with my boys, who are big fans of fruit roll-ups. These “cookies” offer a delightful, chewy surprise and are incredibly customizable for any sweet message you want to share. It’s a fantastic no-bake option that brings a playful twist to the traditional fortune cookie, perfect for kids and adults alike.

While I’ve slightly adapted the method for these treats, you can find more step-by-step pictures and inspiration by clicking here. For creating the perfect circular shape, I typically use a 2-inch cookie cutter. If you don’t have one on hand or prefer the convenience of online shopping, you can easily find a suitable cutter. A good quality round cutter will make the process much smoother and ensure uniform “cookies.”

  • For consistent results, a 2-inch Round Cutter is highly recommended.

These fortune “cookies” are not only visually appealing but also a joy to personalize. You can write heartfelt messages, silly jokes, or even small challenges on the parchment paper inserts, making each “cookie” a unique experience. They are perfect for lunchbox surprises, party favors, or just a sweet way to show someone you care.

Love “Fortune” Cookies

By Chelsea Lords
An easy and simple “fortune” cookie made from fruit roll-ups, perfect for personal messages.
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 15

Equipment

  • Parchment paper no substitutes for messages
  • Permanent marker
  • 2-inch Round Cookie Cutter (optional, but recommended)

Ingredients

  • 1 box (10 ounces; 20 pack) Red Mini Fruit Roll-ups regular sized fruit roll-ups also work, you’ll just need to cut more circles from each

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing your “fortune” messages. Cut thin strips of parchment paper, approximately 2 inches long and 0.5 inches wide, for the inside messages.
  • Write your desired messages on the parchment paper strips using a permanent marker. Allow the ink to dry completely to prevent smudging and transfer to the fruit roll-ups.
  • Unwrap the fruit roll-ups. Using a 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out as many circles as you can from each roll-up. Lay them flat on a clean surface.
  • For each fortune cookie, stack three fruit roll-up circles on top of each other. This gives them a little more substance. Place one of your prepared message strips in the bottom one-third of the stacked circles. Carefully fold the circles in half, making sure to only bring the ends together without flattening the main body of the circles.
  • Now for the shaping: hold the folded fruit roll-up with your thumbs and pointer fingers on each corner of the fold. Use the pointer finger of your other hand to gently crease the middle of the folded edge, pushing inwards. Pinch the ends together firmly to form the classic fortune cookie shape. Hold it in place for a few seconds until it maintains its form.
  • Store the finished “cookies” on the plastic wrapper from the fruit roll-ups or on wax paper to prevent them from sticking. These are best gifted and enjoyed soon after making to maintain their soft, chewy texture.

White Chocolate Heart Pretzels

By Chelsea Lords
Pretzels generously filled with melted white chocolate and adorned with a festive heart sprinkle – a delightful Valentine’s treat!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 ounces) high-quality white chocolate chips
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons vegetable oil optional, to thin chocolate if needed
  • 1 bag mini pretzel twists
  • 1 container jumbo heart sprinkles

Instructions

  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set it aside. This will provide a non-stick surface for your pretzels to cool on.
  • Arrange the mini pretzel twists on the prepared tray, ensuring they are not overlapping and have enough space to fill with chocolate.
  • Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in short bursts of 15 seconds, stirring thoroughly for 10-15 seconds after each burst. This patient melting technique is crucial to prevent the chocolate from burning or seizing, ensuring a smooth and glossy finish.
  • If the melted chocolate appears too thick for piping, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil very slowly, mixing well after each addition until you reach your desired consistency. (A good starting point is about 1/2 to 1 full teaspoon per cup of chocolate chips).
  • Transfer the melted white chocolate into a sturdy plastic bag (like a Ziploc bag). Seal the bag tightly, pressing out as much air as possible. Snip off a tiny corner of the bag with scissors to create a small opening for piping.
  • Carefully pipe the melted chocolate into the open centers of each mini pretzel twist, filling them completely.
  • Gently wiggle the tray from side to side to help the chocolate settle and create a smooth, even surface on top of the pretzels.
  • While the chocolate is still wet, immediately place one jumbo heart sprinkle into the center of each chocolate-filled pretzel. Allow the pretzels to set completely at room temperature, which might take an hour or two, or place them in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to speed up setting.
