A Little Shortcut With A VERY Good Payoff!
Growing up, Nothing Bundt Cakes was always a favorite! We had one close by, and for birthdays or special occasions, we’d almost always pick one up. I’ve tried just about every flavor, but the chocolate has always been a reliable.
The cake is SO moist, packed with chocolate flavor, and that thick cream cheese frosting is the best part. I could honestly eat it by the spoonful!
I’ve wanted to recreate it at home for years, and originally, I was determined to make it completely from scratch. But after testing a version with a cake mix and having it turn out ridiculously moist and satisfying, I thought, why complicate things?!
A few simple additions to a boxed cake mix make the most incredible chocolate bundt cake, and I think it gives the original a run for its money!

Bundt Cake From Cake Mix Ingredients
| Ingredient | My best tip |
|---|---|
| Eggs | Let sit at room temp for smoother mixing. |
| Sour cream | Plain Greek yogurt works great as a substitute. |
| Oil | It is satisfying to using coconut oil, but any oil will work here. |
| Vanilla | Pure vanilla extract gives the best flavor. |
| Cake mix | I’ve tested several, and Betty Crocker Super Moist Chocolate Fudge is a reliable! |
| Pudding mix | Use the dry instant pudding mix, not prepared pudding. |
| Hot water or coffee | I usually just use hot water but hot coffee will also work and add a fun flavor twist! |
| Chocolate chips | I like using mini chocolate chips for a little better distribution throughout the cake. |

How To Remove Your Cake From The Pan
- Best Bundt pans: If you don’t have a good one, here’s a list of top-rated options.
- Grease and flour pan: Coat the pan with nonstick spray, shortening, or butter. Dust with flour (or cocoa powder) and shake out any extra.
- Inverting cake: Let the cake cool for 10-15 minutes so it pulls away from the pan. Then flip it onto a plate or cake stand, and it should slide right out.
Storage
- Store leftover frosted Bundt cake in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, tightly cover the unfrosted cake and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, let it defrost for a few hours and frost fresh.
