Black Bean Wraps with black beans, creamy avocado, and creamy cilantro-lime dressing—flavor-packed and totally crave-worthy!
AUTHOR’S NOTES
My Mom’s “Famous” Black Bean Wraps!
Over the years, there are a few recipes that my mom has become known for (at least by family and friends), like her Carmelitas and S’mores Cereal Bars.
Although she loved baking, cooking wasn’t her favorite, so she kept lunches and dinners quick—always 30 minutes or less. One of my childhood go-to meals was her black bean wraps.
I still crave them today—they’re so good! A flavorful black bean filling, creamy avocado, and a cilantro-lime dressing. Perfection! My top tip: wait for a super ripe avocado—it really makes all the difference.
And if you’re feeling like less carbs, these are just as tasty on lettuce (no tortilla needed)!

Ingredients In Black Bean Wraps
Here are some quick ingredient tips before the full recipe:
- Black Beans: Canned is quick, but for extra flavor, try my from-scratch black beans!
- Limes: Look for limes that feel heavy for their size—they have more juice.
- Avocado: A ripe avocado feels soft near the stem, like pressing on the tip of your nose.
- Cilantro-Lime Sauce: Tastes better after sitting, so it’s reliable for making ahead.
What Kind Of Tortillas Work Best
Any tortillas you like will work for these black bean wraps. Fresh, soft tortillas are easiest to wrap. I use medium (taco-sized) tortillas for this recipe.
Or skip the tortilla and use lettuce!
Quick Tip
How To Wrap A Tortilla
- Place the filling in the center.
- Fold in the sides to cover the filling.
- Roll the tortilla from the bottom, tucking the edges as you go.
- Seal the wrap by pressing the edge.
For a crispy finish, cook in a skillet for 2-4 minutes per side.

What To Serve With Black Bean Wraps
- Rice: Cilantro-lime rice or plain white rice.
- Salad: A fresh side salad, like a cucumber or tomato salad.
- Chips: Tortilla chips with salsa or guacamole for dipping.
- Fries: Crispy baked fries or roasted sweet potatoes.
Variations
Change Up Your Black Bean Wraps:
- Add Protein: Try taco chicken, shrimp, tofu.
- Swap the Beans: Use pinto beans or chickpeas instead.
- Make It Spicy: Add sliced jalapeños.
- Warm & Crispy: Spread sour cream and the black bean mixture on tortillas, top with freshly grated sharp Cheddar or Pepper jack, roll up, and cook in a skillet for 2-4 minutes per side until crispy. Dip in cilantro-lime sauce!
